“One of Bennett’s Best”
1976 Chevron B36
New BDG engine, New FIA HTP, Race Ready

Founded by Derek Bennett, British race car builder Chevron became known in the seventies for developing a long series of highly reliable and successful competition cars, both single-seaters and sportscars, each of them built in modest quantities. Chevron not just made its mark in Formula 2, Formula 3 and Formula Atlantic, but also in the burgeoning European 2-litre Sportscar Championship of the era.

Kicking off in 1970 as a proper European Championship, the series played host to the best sportscar designs coming forth from the well-known British customer chassis constructors of the time, that included Lola, March and Chevron, with continental competition coming from Alpine, Porsche and Abarth Osella, backed up by a large number of garden-shed initiatives from all over the world,

In 1976, just after the European Championship folded, the B36 was the final iteration of a long line of Group 5 and Group 6 open-top Chevron 2-litre sportscars that started with the B16 Spyder and continued with the B19, B21, B23, B26 and B31. Customers used a wide range of powerplants. Several types of Cosworths as well as the BMW M12 proved to be the most popular, but other options ranged from Chevrolet Vega to Chrysler/Simca. The B36 was introduced in 1976 as a Group 6 car to achieve multiple (class) victories at Vallelunga, Suzuka, the Targa Florio and in the Le Mans 24-hour race.

B36 CH-76-02 was one of several cars owned and raced by Jean Blaton and friends between 1987 and 2003.
Pictures of those days show the car in Navy Blue and Yellow being driven by dignitaries like “Beurlys” himself, Teddy Pilette, Pierre Dieudonné, Didier de Radigues, Pierre van Vliet and Spa-Francorchamps Director Jean-Francois Chaumont.

In 2003 the car was sold to Mr. Richard and Benton Bryan from Tennessee USA at which time the Pierre du Nord livery was applied. Under their ownership the car raced at Le Mans Classic in 2004, 2006 and 2008 and in other major events in Europe. Nigel Greensall, who had nothing but good things to say about it, can be seen racing the car at Le Castellet in the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8X_1qVPq2YY

Under recent ownership the car has been completely recommissioned including an engine rebuild by Mark Solloway of Blue Sky Engineering UK. The car will be delivered with a new FIA HTP and is ready to race.
