The best websites to buy or sell a race car in 2026
Race car ads are spread all over the place: motorsport classifieds, single-discipline websites, classic car marketplaces, big general sites, Facebook groups and auctions. Depending on your discipline, your budget and your country, the right place is not the same. The market is often international too: a car for sale in one country regularly finds its buyer across the border, or even overseas.
This guide reviews the main websites, in Europe and beyond, with what each one offers and what it costs to sell there.
The main types of websites
🏁 Motorsport classifieds
They are built for this: categories by discipline, technical passport, homologation, spares package… The buyers browsing them are genuinely looking for a race car. In the UK, Racecarsdirect is the reference for circuit and rally cars, with ads from all over Europe. Racemarket runs its ads across some twenty countries, Mercatino Racing leads in Italy, motorsportmarkt.de in Germany, Mikado Racing in France (mostly rally), RacingJunk in the USA and My105 in Australia. GoToTheGrid covers every discipline in English and French.
🎯 Single-discipline websites
If you race in one specific discipline, they reach the right drivers directly: RallyCarsForSale for rally cars, Agora TT for French cross-country rallies, or Elferspot for Porsches, race cars included. The flip side: buyers from other disciplines never see your ad.
🏛️ Historic and classic car websites
For a historic race car, Classic & Racing (France) specialises in historic motorsport. Car & Classic or Classic Trader mostly attract collectors: you will find few modern race cars there.
🛒 Big general marketplaces
eBay or national sites such as leboncoin have a huge audience, but no category by discipline or homologation. Above all, enquiries are poorly qualified: lots of people from outside motorsport, scam attempts and automated messages. They work for a modified road car or common parts, much less for a pure race car.
👥 Facebook groups and forums
Very active in every discipline, and free. The downside: ads quickly get buried in the feed, there is no real search, and scams are more common. They work best to give extra exposure to an ad published elsewhere.
🔨 Auctions
For a high-value car or one with a race history, auction houses such as Iconic Auctioneers (UK) hold sales dedicated to competition cars, and some websites (Car & Classic, Racemarket) run online auctions. Expect a commission on the sale price.

Prices for a private seller listing a car, checked on October 28, 2026 on each website and subject to change. VAT included unless marked excl. VAT.
What to check before buying
- The car's paperwork. Up-to-date technical passport and homologation papers that match the car (chassis number, group, class). Also check how long the homologation remains valid in your discipline.
- Safety equipment dates. Seats, harnesses, fuel cell and extinguisher have an expiry date (often 5 years). Expired items mean extra costs before your first race.
- The history. Races entered, crashes, invoices, engine and gearbox hours since the last rebuild. A serious seller has this information.
- The spares package. Wheels, tyres, gear ratios, spare parts: what comes with the car can be worth a lot. Get it listed in writing.
- See it, try it, pay safely. See the car, and drive it if possible (test day, track day). Pay by bank transfer after checking the paperwork, never by money order. Beware of a price that is too low or a seller in a hurry.
Selling your race car: our tips
- List it on a motorsport website that covers your discipline and, if the car may interest foreign buyers, on a website present in several countries.
- Take good photos: exterior, cockpit, roll cage, engine, front and rear suspension, paperwork. The more photos, the more serious the enquiries.
- Give the details drivers look for: homologation, technical passport, engine hours, safety equipment dates, spares package.
- Show a price. "Price on request" ads get fewer enquiries.
- Share your ad in the groups of your discipline to reach more people.
Where GoToTheGrid fits in
GoToTheGrid is a classifieds website dedicated to motorsport, launched in 2024. It currently has 4,018 live ads: rally cars, circuit cars, hill climb cars, karts, historic cars, plus parts, driver equipment, rentals and services.
The website is fully in English and French, and every ad is translated automatically: a French seller is read by British, Belgian, Swiss or American buyers, and the other way round. About half of the visitors come from outside France.
Listing an ad is free, for private sellers and professionals alike. Featuring it (from €17.90, one-off payment) brings 3 times more views on average, a spot on the homepage and a share on our Facebook pages (over 120,000 followers).
Younger than Racecarsdirect or Mikado Racing, GoToTheGrid focuses on a clear website on mobile and desktop, with every discipline in one place, and its traffic has grown steadily since launch.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best website to sell a race car?
There is no single answer: it depends on the discipline and where the buyers are. The most effective approach is to list on a motorsport website that covers your discipline, then share the ad in the relevant groups. For a car that may interest foreign buyers, choose a website present in several countries or translated, such as GoToTheGrid, Racemarket or Racecarsdirect.
Can I sell a race car for free?
Yes. GoToTheGrid, Mikado Racing, Mercatino Racing, motorsportmarkt.de and RacingJunk offer free listings, with paid options for more visibility. Racecarsdirect (except commission sales), Racemarket, RallyCarsForSale and Classic & Racing charge from the start.
How do I avoid scams?
See the car and its paperwork before paying, pay by bank transfer and never by money order, and be wary of prices well below market value, sellers who refuse a call or a viewing, and anyone pushing for a deposit.
Should I list my ad on several websites?
Often yes, especially for a car that is sought after abroad. Remember to update or remove every ad once the car is sold.
Where can I sell a race car abroad?
In the UK, Racecarsdirect; in Italy, Mercatino Racing; in Germany, motorsportmarkt.de; in the USA, RacingJunk; in Australia, My105. Racemarket and GoToTheGrid reach several countries at once.
