A unique work of art. A piece of history. The first Porsche in the world to be personalised by TechArt. Explanations.
TechArt and its close links with the Porsche manufacturer need no introduction. TechArt's first real achievements and first public exhibition in the Porsche world were based on a Porsche 911 model 964 presented at the 1990 Frankfurt Motor Show. Based on the 911 Carrera Cabriolet 3.6 model, it was the showcase for this partnership for over 20 years. It was an excellent way of showing what TechArt, or TechArt Automobildesign, could do in close collaboration with Porsche in terms of development and major customisation programmes.
This Porsche 911 cabriolet, model 964, presented to great fanfare, was draped in full yellow both inside and out. The car, a true technical feat, was equipped with a wide body conversion. The Porsche front bumper was left out, with the wide front wheel arches draped over the sides of the original bumper. The wheels chosen were OZ Fittipali 17″ with the centres painted in the car's yellow paint. The Turbo-look conversion cost around a third (DM45,000) of a new 964 Carrera 2 (DM120,000) and the TechArt interior was worth another DM30,000. Not to mention the many additional subtle details. Absolute madness from enthusiasts for enthusiasts.
This true work of art on wheels is not only a technical and development feat that showcases the best know-how in the Rhineland, it also represents a part of the TechArt/Porsche history, the dream of appropriating the unique in automotive objects, and foreshadows all the future customisation programmes of all manufacturers. It is a unique object, iconic of the automobile at its most desirable and vibrant in the human heart.
