Audi Quattro Coupé Type 85 WR2 (1981): the revolutionary icon in its 1984 San Remo livery

Discover a piece of motoring history: the Audi Quattro Type 85 WR. This model established all-wheel drive in rallying, changing the face of global motorsport forever.

This December 1981 example has undergone a complete ‘stripped-down’ restoration and features the legendary livery from the 1984 San Remo Rally.

A vibrant tribute to the golden age of Group B, combining pure performance with exceptional condition.

That year, the works team boasted two legendary drivers who made history: Stig Blomqvist, who clinched the World Championship title that very year, and Walter Röhrl, whose talent propelled Quattro technology to the very top of the world rankings.

Advisor’s note:
“This is the stuff of legend. Finding a ‘Ur’ Quattro in this state of restoration is now a rarity on the market. The 1984 San Remo livery is executed with precision, paying tribute to a historic season for Audi Sport. It is a sound, powerful and formidably efficient car, ready to join a top-tier collection.”

History and maintenance

This example has a crystal-clear history and a reassuring provenance, having belonged to the president of the La Fare-les-Oliviers motoring club.

Acquired in 2017 by its current owner, the vehicle has been subject to rigorous technical inspections and its mileage has been meticulously recorded since 1997.

A comprehensive valuation was carried out in 2026, attesting to the car’s overall quality.

Work and restoration

The car has undergone extensive restoration to achieve a high standard of quality.

The bodywork was completely stripped down, repainted from top to bottom and fitted with a rally livery kit.

As for the running gear, all rubber bushings, engine mounts and shock absorbers have been replaced.

An H&R short-spring kit has been fitted to optimise handling.

Mechanically, many components are new or recent: water pump, alternator, timing belt kit, battery and wheel alignment.

Braking is provided by high-performance Tarox Racing discs and pads.

Technical specifications

The legendary 5-cylinder turbo engine really comes into its own here, enhanced by a stainless steel exhaust system.

The car sits on its original alloy wheels fitted with 205/60R15 Yokohama tyres.

The electronic ignition and fuel injection systems ensure optimal performance for this set-up, which develops around 220 ch.

Equipment and appearance

The exterior design adheres to racing standards with its rear spoiler kit and a bar housing four long-range (LP) headlights.

Inside, the cabin has been meticulously refurbished with seats reupholstered in two-tone imitation leather, offering firm comfort and a decidedly sporty look.
