It is a Lotus Elan GTS Series 1 meeting the full specifications (the ‘FIA’ designation appears on the homologation forms) and is referred to as ‘26R specification’ in Lotus parlance.
In summary, it is fully registered for road use and complies with regulations, and features:
A chassis and suspension to 26R specifications – very similar to a standard chassis, but fitted with reinforcement gussets and a fully ball-jointed suspension.
An ultra-lightweight Series 1 26R body, roof and closing panels. The 26R is fitted with wing extensions.

A 3/4-scale wooden dashboard, as used on the Series 1 26R.
A removable steering wheel.
AP brake calipers to 26R specifications fitted with modern racing brake pads.
6J13 quick-release magnesium wheels with spline drive, and a magnesium rear differential housing.
A close-ratio gearbox (with a cast iron main casing, as the FIA has banned magnesium ones).
Safety Devices roll cage.
Tillet racing seat with lightweight harness.
Lightweight battery.
Engine tuned by Craig Beck, producing approximately 175 BHP with two Weber 45 DCOE carburettors.
Heated windscreen; plastic side and rear windows.
Alloy radiator and expansion tank with electric fan.

Long-distance fuel tank filled with foam.
Road-legal lighting: headlights, indicators, etc.
Fitted with an engine that has just been overhauled and freshly run in with a new cylinder head, this car promises its future owners an extremely competitive and perfectly maintained vehicle. It comes with a valid FIA HTP certificate, a spare gearbox and rear differential, as well as 8 fitted wheels.
Among its many racing achievements, our Elan has competed in numerous races with its previous owner in England, as well as at Dijon and Spa. With its new owner, it has been entered in the 10,000 Tours at Le Castellet and at Dijon for the ‘Age d’Or’ event.
Fully eligible for Peter Auto, Le Mans Classic, the Tour Auto and the Sixties, as well as for the Motor Racing Legends series, this is a car destined to shine at the front of the field.
