Chassis 00090078
Built by Alfa Corse and run by Nordauto Engineering, chassis 00090078 was raced by Fabrizio Giovanardi in the 1995 Italian Superturismo Championship. It finished on the podium seven times that season, including a win at Mugello against the factory-backed Audi and BMW opposition.
That Mugello weekend, on 9 July 1995, was particularly good: Giovanardi won the first race and took second in the next. Further podiums followed at Pergusa, Varano and Vallelunga. The car went to EC Motorsport for 1996, when Roberto Colciago raced it in the Italian championship, before moving into Belgian Procar in 1997. The car is presented in 100% original condition.
Under the bonnet is a naturally aspirated, 1,970cc twin-cam four-cylinder engine with Weber-Marelli management. Its previously published output is 310bhp at 8,500rpm—more than 150bhp per litre. Those figures give some idea of how far the Super Touring regulations pushed engine development.
The front wheels are driven through a Hewland HP2000 6-speed sequential transaxle, previously catalogued for this car as a five-speed unit. Designed specifically for two-litre, front-wheel-drive racing cars, it uses dog engagement and allows gear ratios and the differential assembly to be changed without removing the gearbox. For a team preparing the car between meetings, that accessibility is useful.
The chassis follows the same approach: a production-based steel bodyshell developed for competition within the FIA’s Super Touring rules. Getting the best from it involves understanding the geometry, gearing and balance, which makes the surviving period set-up sheets particularly valuable.
The accompanying material includes an original competition logbook, homologation papers and parts manuals, along with mechanical and body spares*. There are also records of an engine rebuild carried out by Champion Motorsport in 2016. Together, they give the next owner and their preparation team a useful body of information to work from.
For someone intending to race it, the attraction is clear: an Alfa Corse-built 155 with Giovanardi’s name in the logbook and a Mugello win to its credit. The car is also eligible for the new Super Touring Revival series giving the next owner the opportunity to race it on a dedicated grid alongside other original Super Touring cars.
