Swallow Coachbuilding Company

The Swallow Coachbuilding Company, founded in 1922 by William Lyons and William Walmsley, began by manufacturing sidecars. In 1926, it diversified with bodies on Austin Seven chassis, then moved to Coventry in 1927. In 1931, it joined forces with the Standard Motor Company to launch the SS1, and in 1934 became SS Cars Ltd, renamed Jaguar Cars Ltd after the war. The sidecar division was sold in 1945, and in 1954 Swallow produced its last model, the Doretti, under the management of Tube Investments.
