Launched in 1965, the Lancia Fulvia Coupé radically transformed the sporting career of the Turin-based manufacturer. Rapidly evolving into 'HF' versions and then the emblematic 1600 HF 'Fanalone', it became the flagship car of Cesare Fiorio's team. Thanks to its 1.6-litre engine capable of developing up to 165 bhp in race trim, the Fulvia dominated the international scene, winning the Marques World Championship in 1972 and 1974. Legendary drivers such as Sandro Munari and Harry Källström made history at the wheel of this car, consolidating Lancia's reputation before the arrival of legendary models such as the Stratos and Delta. Beyond its performance, the Fulvia represented a fundamental leap forward, marking the transition to the golden age of modern rallying. With more than 4,900 examples produced, including both road and rally versions, this model remains a part of automotive history, famous for its mechanical elegance and an enviable track record at a time when the driver's talent was the real key to success.
The car offered for sale bears witness to this glorious past. Equipped with an old factory engine (number 818540 VAR 1016), probably that of the car that won the Rally of Austria in 1970, this car has an exceptional pedigree. Its honours list includes its participation in the 1975 San Remo Rally, where, driven by Delfino and DeNegri, it finished 33rd. After decades of history, the vehicle underwent a complete restoration, completed this year, to bring it back to its former glory. The work included a complete paint stripping, bodywork repairs and a meticulous mechanical rebuild: every component, from the engine with revised valves and pistons to the original carburettors, short-ratio gearbox and new racing clutch, has been meticulously maintained for maximum reliability. The suspension, with modified Koni shock absorbers, and the braking system have also been completely refurbished. Thanks to its comprehensive documentation and rare provenance, this Fulvia 1600 HF is not just a classic car, but a collector's item ready to return to competition.
