The mechanical components – the shock absorbers and brakes – have been completely overhauled. The engine was fully stripped down, with the bearings and piston rings replaced, the cylinders honed, all gaskets replaced, and the crankshaft assembly reassembled and balanced. A complete bespoke stainless steel exhaust system has been fitted. The front brakes are from an M635, as is the suspension (shorter springs); the four Bilstein shock absorbers have been reconditioned by STAC, featuring extra-long guide rods.
The five-speed gearbox features a Gétrag reverse first gear and a BMW X Sport limited-slip differential. The fuel tank, engine bay and underbody have been stripped and then re-treated. The bodywork is sound; any visible rust is superficial, and there is no rust in the usual areas of corrosion (the car has always been kept in the Mediterranean region).
Work still to be done: re-wiring the electrical harness following the removal of the alarm, bodywork and paintwork, interior, refitting the bumpers.
I own the two-volume BMW workshop manual.
As my partner is no longer here, I am no longer in a position to complete the work. I am selling it for the cost of the labour I have had to pay and the parts I have purchased.
In addition, there are the four wheels fitted with new tyres on 735 ET20 rims, a bonnet, wings, doors, a dashboard and many other parts.
The original vehicle registration document is included; it is not in my name, but I have the deed of transfer. I bought this car from a colonel in the Foreign Legion in Aubagne in 2009; I’ve been working on it for years, but I can’t manage it any longer and, at 69, I’ve no time to waste.
