LANCIA DELTA DELTA HF INTEGRALE 8v Gr.A MARTINI RACING (ABARTH SE044)
In 1987 the FIA approved the new regulations for Group A, born on the ashes of Group B, banned because they were too dangerous after the tragic events of 1986. Lancia's response was immediate with the Delta HF 4WD, which won nine of the thirteen races of the 1987 season, winning the World Constructors' and Drivers' Championships with Juha Kankkunen.
Thanks to the experience accumulated and in anticipation of the new racing season, Lancia is developing a new car coded SE044, better known as Delta HF Integrale. The new model debuted at the 1988 Rally Portugal, the third race of the World Rally Championship. Numerous improvements were made compared to the outgoing model thanks to the work carried out by Claudio Lombardi's team at ABARTH: a larger Garrett T3 turbocharger coupled with a more efficient and better positioned intercooler, wider track and rounded wheel arches to allow the mounting of wheels and larger tyres and above all the new 6-speed gearbox called R70.
OUR CAR TO74781L (#460255)
At the beginning of 1989, in anticipation of the seasonal debut tests, ABARTH set up six new bodies in different configurations: the TO74780L and 1L (ours) as light asphalt bodies, the TO74782L and 3L in the heavy dirt/safari version and the TO74784L and 5L for light earth. The cars contributed significantly to the development of the technical innovations introduced for the new racing season, resulting in the achievement of important race placings which culminated in the 3rd world constructors' title.
The TO74781L was registered in January 1989 as a test car for the Monte Carlo Rally and the BIASION/SIVIERO crew of which it retains the original set-up, including the SPARCO seats. Following its use in ABARTH, the car was sold to the HOLZER satellite team in Germany which, with the support of the parent company, carried out the mechanical and bodywork updates required by the FIA fiche and related extensions. Still in 8v configuration, it continued its career in the German Championship until, in 1990 and following the introduction of the new 16v model, the car was sold to Grenoble Sport Auto in France.
At the end of the 90s the "1L" was repatriated by the AUTOIERI company of Dronero (CN) before the definitive sale in 2015 to the current ownership. Following a meticulous conservative restoration by KEY SPORT of Rimini, leader in the sector, the car obtained the Certification of Authenticity from FCA Heritage - Lancia Classiche, with the maximum originality score from the examining commission.
The car retains all the prerogatives of the original ABARTH setup both at the passenger compartment level with the original BIASION/SIVIERO seats, the fire extinguishing system and the HALDA RALLY, and at the mechanical level with the 8v engine, the IAW70 control unit and the gearbox R70 6-speed.
Car can be entered in all the most prestigious global events in the sector including Rally Legend, Eifel Rallye Festival and the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
