List of rally test tracks (in France)

It is often very difficult to obtain the necessary permits (via a municipal or prefectural order) to close a road for a few hours or a day and conduct real-condition testing with a rally car, legally and safely.

To shake down your race car, work on your pace notes with your co-driver, or fine-tune the final adjustments before the events on your calendar, companies, associations, ASAs, and even private drivers offer private test sessions on closed roads and/or on test bases.

Be sure to check the insurance requirements before your session. At a minimum, liability insurance is often required for the vehicle.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of organizers and test bases available in France. If you know of a test base not listed below, feel free to send us an email so it can be added to the article.

Find a test base in the Northwest of France

The Northwest of France includes regions such as Normandy, Brittany, Pays de la Loire, Centre-Val de Loire, Île-de-France, and Hauts-de-France.

The Northeast includes regions such as Hauts-de-France, Grand Est, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, and part of Île-de-France.

  • Available Tracks: asphalt bases with various profiles: fast, slow, wide, narrow, bumpy, etc. Routes ranging from 4 to 8 km round trip.

  • Available Tracks: three asphalt bases of 5, 6, and 7 km. One session organized each quarter.

Find a test base in the Southwest of France

The Southwest includes Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Occitanie, a very active area for organizing test sessions with many permanent bases open year-round.

Rally Test Base Estaing Le Nayrac (A.R.S.A, Association des Amis des Rallyes Sport Auto)

  • Department: Aveyron (12)
  • Available Tracks: a dirt track (2km) and an asphalt track (8km)
  • Rates: asphalt track: €400 per day (8:00 am to 6:00 pm) + lunch for the three track marshals (or €250 for a half-day). Dirt track: €800 per day (8:00 am to 6:00 pm) + lunch for the four track marshals (or €500 for a half-day)

The Southeast includes the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur regions, and Corsica. A particularly well-stocked area for test bases.

  • Available Tracks: 10 different asphalt bases (all in the Monts du Lyonnais)
  • Rates: €90 + €240 (RC organizer reimbursement to be shared among the cars participating in the test day) and meal expenses for volunteers.
