DESCRIPTION:
Very few cars drive a lot better than they look, let alone when they look this good! The stunning Carmen Red paintwork is simply outstanding, as is the interior. Having been lovingly and fully restored, the car has covered a mere 8,000 miles since and it really shows. The car is in sublime order throughout, but it doesn’t just stop there, the brightwork may be pretty, but hop aboard and fire up the silky smooth upgraded 4.2 litre engine and you know this car is the full package.
The car starts effortlessly, slip it into gear via the slick 5 speed Getrag gearbox and pull away on a huge waft of torque. The engine has been upgraded to produce 288bhp, with modified ports, cam & valves. If you press the right pedal, you really do fire off down the road and it’s quite clear to see why these were the fastest cars in their day, aided by the 5 speed ‘box and Power-Lok differential, rebuilt suspension and brakes, the car drives and handles just beautifully, the best-balanced E-Type we’ve driven. A true credit to its long-term owner.
During the restoration, not a single stone was left unturned and boy, does it show. The car is so competent and smooth it’s hard to believe that the car is 56 years of age, truly incredible. When in the driver’s seat all of the slight modifications just make the drive that bit more enjoyable, all of the right mods carried out, like the lightened and balanced flywheel, making the car happier to rev, smooth between changes and more eager. There really isn’t anything you can mark this car down on, and we welcome you to come and experience it for yourself, we are sure you’ll be as impressed as we are.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION:
Having undergone a full nut and bolt restoration 20 years ago, the car has covered only 8,000 miles since. Those 8,000 miles have been kind, dry and cossetted, kept in a heated garage and only taken out when the nice weather arrives, the bodywork, panel gaps, shut lines, paintwork, chrome and the interior all belie the time elapsed since the work was carried out. With constant care and maintenance along the way since, having been cared for by specialists and looked after fastidiously by its owner of 20 years, the car really is a sight to behold. This is not your normal tired or half-hearted rolling restoration.
To give you an idea of what was done at the time, which is all recorded in a photo book of the full body, being taken back to bare metal, the engine stripped down etc… This list is not exhaustive either:
- Engine rebuilt and upgraded to produce 288bhp
- 5 speed Getrag gearbox fitted,
- Power-Lok differential
- lightweight flywheel
- New wire wheels
- Brakes rebuilt
- Suspension rebuilt
- New windscreen & surround
- All new chrome
- New full stainless-steel exhaust
- Water pump rebuilt
- Lucas electronic ignition
- Full interior re-trim
- Dash re-trim
- All instrumentation to operate correctly
It is still to this day the smoothest and best-rounded E Type you could possibly imagine and the amount of effort, time and care that was and has been lavished on it during and since the restoration are evident in its performance on the road. It’s not just a show stopper; it is a true pleasure to pilot. We implore, if you’re after an E-Type of any sort, you use this one as your benchmark.
