1999 TVR Chimaera 450, PAS, AC & Lumbar support

Dobby as he’s affectionately known is only just being released into the wild after a caring 20-year ownership! Rarely do we see Chimaeras in such long-term custodianship, so when we do, we love the prospect of finding a part of the family a loving new home! He’s a 1999 450, the best of all worlds if you spend hours reading the forums, free revving, punchy and still plenty quick enough. The Chimaera is really coming of age at the moment for quite a few reasons. They’re rare, useable, smooth and comfortable and cost effective to maintain. But most of all, it’s the involvement and feedback when driving that so many modern cars lack, the TVRs have it in spades!

Wrapped in a timeless Lotus Aluminium Silver body, the interior is fully bespoke and this one is a true TVR, it’s the only one we’ve ever seen with factory fitted electric lumbar support adjustment. It is a half hide car, so the seats are ridiculously soft and cossetting. This car also has working air conditioning, another really rare option on a Chimaera, along with the all-important power assisted steering, this car could have the best spec out there. Having been a local car all of its life, garaged and with only 34,000 miles from new, the chassis condition is top notch. The car presents very well all round and we believe all of the paint is original. The problem areas have been PPF’d to protect them, so this is a remarkably original car all round.

Given the subtle colour combination, this is one of the more unassuming TVRs we’ve had through the shop and it is timeless. I have really warmed to it as it reminds me of my first TVR, a silver Chimaera 400, one drive is all it takes to get under your skin, like they did to me. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION:

This car emerged from Bristol Avenue over 25 years ago with quite an amazing specification. Hide seats, electric lumbar support (still working too), power steering and air conditioning, all of which still function as intended. Brilliant for the export market too, as so few Chimaeras have AC! It shows that a well-cared for TVR can not only survive, but thrive just as Peter Wheeler wanted them to. And well-cared for this one most certainly is. Supplied with both sets of keys and fobs, a full service history, the key code card, book pack and a file full of invoices, MOTs and parts orders dating back to her first years, you’ve got all you need for a proper enthusiast’s car.

With only 3 previous owners, the car has enjoyed a 20 year ownership by local TVRCC members and the car is well known, having been nothing but reliable and having been used on many tours and trips over the years with the club.
