Alfa Romeo 156 Superturismo

The 156 was created to offer the characteristic driving pleasure of Alfa Romeo cars. With the creation of the Superturismo version, the Alfa Romeo tradition in competitions continues.
Alfa Romeo has been part of the Fiat galaxy for a decade when it presented the 156 at the 1997 Frankfurt Motor Show: its task is to make fans of the brand dream again. The engineers decided to obtain the best handling in the category starting from the suspension. The 156 was born with front-wheel drive like the other Fiat Group cars but with a more sophisticated chassis.
A quadrilateral layout is chosen at the front as on racing cars, while the advanced McPherson strut of the Lancia Delta Integrale is fitted at the rear. The car is suitable for use in track competitions. Thus, the Group N versions derived from series production for private drivers and the 156 2.0 T.S. were created. Official supertourism.
Following the regulatory specifications of the time, the car maintains its external appearance, while the two-liter Twin Spark engine (with twin spark plug ignition) is positioned lower and moved further back towards the passenger compartment to improve weight distribution. The engine is almost completely redesigned, adopts a dry sump and delivers 310 horsepower of maximum power. The six-speed sequential gearbox with front clutches and the self-locking differential complete the work.
